• THE ITALIANS’ IRRESISTIBLE ACCOMPLISH THE IMPOSSIBLE. Received 9.10. LONDON, August" 22, The Daily Mail’s correspondent says'-the' Isonzb battle continues to rage with unprecedented violence, and isj expected to last longer than any preceding battle. There have been many thrilling sepctacular feats. A notable episode Vas the passage of 1 the Isonzo near Anchovo. Here the j river is 1 unfordable, running between precipitous cliffs two thousand feet high, resembling the moat of a gigantic fortress. The Italians crossed the river in pontoons, and then threw 'barges across. They occupied the east bank, and scaled the opposite mountain, all the while under trrrific artillery fire. Another terrific struggle took place for the possession of important positions at Selo Breshivizza, which are firmly held. This may prove the key of Hermada. BRITISH AND ITALIAN MONITOR CO-OPERATE. Rceived 9.10. ROME, August 22. British and Italian monitors are cooperating very effectively with the Italian army. They bombarded the enemy positions, on the lower Isonzo simultaneously. The Italian monitors bombarded dockyards at Trieste and were subsequently attacked unsuccssfully by hostile aircraft, one of which was drowned.
