. ACTION IN GERMAN BIGHT. LONDON, August 18. The High Commissioner cables: The Admiralty reports. Our light forces, while scouting in the German Bight ,on Thursday morning, sighted an enemy destroyer. We chased and repeatedly hit her, setting her on fire. She escaped over a minefield. Afterwards enemy minesweepers were sighted. Two were severely damaged, but also escaped. An enemy submarine attacked us twice unsuccessfully, but our vessels emerged undamaged.

THE GERMAN VERSION. Received 8.5. LONDON, August 1. Admiralty wireless: The Germans claim that patr.ols encountered and attacked enemy cruisers and destroyers in the North Sea. The latter retired hastily*.
