AWARUA GUN CLUB.

The members of the Awarua Rifle Club held a very successful shooting match at the grounds, Beban's Hill, on Thursday afternoon in beautiful weather. The first match the Club”s shoot 10 birds resulted:—J. Casey (18 yards). 8 birds; W. McCoombie (14) 8, S. G. Peyton (12) 8, T. Begg (10) 8, C. Timbs (16) 8, P. Spooner. (12) 8; S. Mills (Hunterville) (12) 8, J. Whittle (scr.) 7, W. McLennan (10) 7, T. Shout (10) 6, H. Chisholm (Hunterville) (16) 6; E. McLaughlin (10) 5; J. Ozanne (17) 5; H. Belk (13) 5. , The shoot off resulted in Casey, (per Whittle), S. G. Peyton, C. Timbs and P. Spooner getting a bird; in the next shoot off, C. Timbs secured a bird and this secured the first prize valued £5 5s, in the next shoot off Casey and Spooner secured a bird, and in the final Spooner secured a bird and the second prize valued £3 3s, whilst Casey, penned the third prize. In the next match a 5s sweepstake, 5 birds, the best results were H. Belk (13) 4, D. J. McLennan (10) 4, T. Bradley (10) 4, W. McLennan (10) 3, Dr. R. J. Boyd (10) 3, A. Gibbs (10) 3, Sergeant Matthews (10) 3 J. Ozanne (17) 3, J. Gilchrist (10) 3, E. McLaughlin (10) 3; P. Spooner (14) 3, H. Chisholm (Hunterville) (16) 3; Doreen (10) 3, In the first shoot off T. Bradley and D. J. McLennan secured a bird each, and likewise in the second but D. J. McLennan secured a bird in the third shoot off. and the first prize of £3, T. Bradley was second and H. Belk third.

The final match was a three bird match from behind the ropes. The first shoot resulted H. Belk 3, T. Bradley 3, P. Spooner 2, Ozanne 2, In the shoot off for first, Belk and Bradley both secured a bird and in the second Belk secured a beautiful bird low on the left and won the prize, with T. Bradley second. In the shoot off for third place, J. Ozanne beat Spooner.

The presence of several Hunterville shots at the shoot made matters more interesting. The arrangements for the match were in the capable hands of Messrs. E. W. Spooner (president), S. Beban (acting secretary) J. Whittle, J. Ozanne, and H. Belk (handicappers) J. Casey, (referee) and T. Bradley, J. Gilchrist, S. P. Peyton, and T. Shout (General Committee.)
