AUSTRIA FRANTICALLY FORTIFYING. ITALIAN OFFENSIVE FEARED Received 8.40 WASHINGTON, August 9. Official advices state that Austria is frantically fortifying, fearing an early Italian offensive. She .has refused Germany’s request to transfer many Austrian divisions to Russia, instead of which she has mobilised the older Austrians for the Russian campaign. In Vienna it is believed that the Ittalian offensive will be the most serious danger to the Central Empires. I This autumn Austria is said to be increasing her submarines in the Adriatic and Mediterranean. MUNITIONS EXPLOSIONS. ZURICH, August 9.
