JUBILEE OF THAMES GOLDFIELDS.
CELEBRATIONS HELD TO-DAY. THAMES, this day. There was a large gathering at the Tames to-day in celebration of the opening of the goldfields in August, 1867. Many visitors were present from Auckland and elsewhere. The' function included a procession through the principal streets, a civic reception of pioneers, addresses by the Mayor, county chairman and distriot Member; later, a luncheon to the pioneers, the Mayor presiding. The speakers included Mr. McCullough, the oldest, living ex-Mayor on the Tha*mes. A commemorative service is to be held this afternoon, the principal speaker being Rev. W. G. Williams, of Christchurch (the only living Thames pioneer minister). Father Dignan is also speaking, other ministers Taking part. The celebrations close this evening by a concert.
