USING COLOURED TROOPS.
Received 10.30 f “LONDON, July 31. In the House of Commons, replying to a suggestion to use native troops instead of calling up; .Englishmen over forty-one, Mr. Steep- Maitland said there were ten thousand South African natives in France, .another forty thousand were authorised.' Twenty battalions were being raised in East Africa, the majority of whom were already serving Nearly two hundred thousand natives existed this year every effort being made to add ali the resources and-increase the fighting machine’s efficiency.
