A SUBMARINE CHASER.
Two recent arrivals in a French port created great satisfaction, no attempt being made to conceal anything about them. One was one of the new submarine chasers, of which the cables have told us a good deal of late, and which are reported to be in urgent request in British waters. The vessel, as described by a Paris paper, was nearly 100 feet long, propelled by petrol, and capable of a speed of 30 knots. The armament was declared to permit the most rapid offensive power by long-range guns. She was equipped with the latest type of listening instruments, and when not long submergence in the water. The other vessel was a big American collier which brought 10,500 tons of wheat to France, besides thousands of cases of surgical and medical dressings for use by the French and American armies. The work of unloading the wheat was carried out by German and Austrian prisoners, who appear to have been somewhat disgusted with the job.
