TAIHAPE CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY CO.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taihape Co-operative Dairy Company Ltd. was held in the Supper-room of the Town Hall, there being 35 shareholders present. Mr. H. D. Bennett, chairman of the Company, was in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting, and of extraordinary general meetings were read and confirmed. ‘ In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the chairman reviewed the state of the butter market, more especially with respect 10 the recent fall in prices. The chief , reason for the drop, he said, was the shortage of shipping combined with a degree of panic displayed by large factories holding large stocks, as the I result of a feeling that they would J not be able to effect a clearance be- | fore next season was on the way. At ‘present butter was on the market at prices considerably below the maximum price fixed by the Board, by which the consuming public got the benefit. The butter fat tax was responsible for a considerable sum being withheld. He thought the present was an occasion for members to move and adopt any resolution they might think fit in connection with the butter fat tax. He thought it was a wrong tax, a class tax, and one that should never have been imposed. He complimented the Company on having the services of such a very capable manager in Mr. Harvey, an opinion that elicited unanimous applause. In concl ision Mr. Bennett stated that he regretted that he would have ro withdraw from the Chairmanship of Directors owing to the increased business responsibilities in Wellington, which would prevent him giving that time and attention the position involved.
Mr. P. Cleary and Mr. J. A. Anderson were elected directors to fill the vacancies caused by the resignation of Mr. Bennett and Mr. Chatfield.
The meeting concluded with a very hearty vote of thanks to Mr. H. D. Bennett for the valuable services he had rendered to the Company during the past year. At a meeting of directors held subsequently, Mr. James McCracken was elected Chairman for the ensuing year.
