DR. BARNARDO'S HOMES.

GARDEN FETE AND CONCERT Almost everyone in the British Empire knows of the existence of Dr. Barnardo's Homes, and the good work and countless lives it has saved. Many men now occupying high and responsible positions in the Empire owe their first start in life to this philanthropic institution. It may not be so widely known that Dr. Barnardo's Homes are supported by voluntary contributions, but it is so, and this fact should not be lost sight of in the midst of so many calls on the purse for patriotic purposes. An effort is being made in Taihape to raise funds for this deserving institution, and next Wednesday an afternoon garden party will be held at Mrs. Boyd's when there will be flower, cake, sweet and needlework stalls, a camisole competition, golf putting, afternoon tea, etc. The grounds' will be open at 1 o'clock. In the evening a grand popular concert will be held in the Parish Hall, at which all the leading local talent are assisting. It should not be necessary for us to appeal for .support to this worthy object, and we have no doubt residents of Taihape, and district will rally round Mrs. Boyd, and place her in the position of being able to remit a substantial sum to the management of Dr. Barnardo's Homes.
