ARSENIC IN SAGO.
DUNEDIN, July 11. Cases of illness occurred recently among several families in North Dunedin, the symptoms being nausea and severe vomiting. Investigations made by officers of the Public Health Department, and analyses by Mr, G. M. Government Analyst, proved (wires our Dunedin correspondent) that the illnesses were all caused by eating sago among which arsenic had got mixed in some way. All the families affected obtained sago from the «ne grocer, who had bought a hundredweight of it in the usual way from 2ns wholesale merchant. Nearly a hundred kegs of the same article arrived here by the same steanier, but the analysis proved that the contents ef only the one keg referred to contained arsenic. The sago came from Singapore. Th probably got into the sago accidentally on board Ship, or else it was deliberately mixed ■with it before leaving Singapore.
