Forty army and navy officers' identified as supporters of the old regime, have been arrested as a preventive measure, T; i;. It has been elicited that the esPremier (M. Zaimis) allowed ex-King Constantine and the Crown Prince to evade signing the act of abdication. M. Venizelos says t-liat' the National Assembly will rectify the omission. ARMY SUPPORTS THE GOVERNMENT. ATHENS, July 2. General Pelopennusus has arrived. He interviewed Venizelos, assuring him that the entire army was ready to carry out the orders of the Government. VENIZELOS . ENTHUSIASTICALLY ACCLAIMED. ATHENS, July 2. The Greek troops to-day took the oath of allegiance to the new King—an imposing ceremony in the presence of Venizelos. Subsequently Requiem Mass w r ag held at the Cathedral for the soldiers killed on the Macedonian front. Venizelos, when returning to his hotel, was enthusiastically acclaimed. In a speech from the balcony he announced that the Array had sworn allegiance to the new King, thus achieving the long desired union of the two parties in Greece. General Papoulas asked to be relieved of his command. He issued a farewell order exhorting the troops to remain fraternally united and to serve the King and country. The various Allied controls, except over telegraphic services, will cease this week.
