The High Commissioner's cable ia as follows (quotations unless otherwise stated being average market quotations on spot): — j£ Meat. —All descriptions of frozen meat are in active demand, owing to short supplies. New Zealand mutton, Argentine mutton, and Argentine lamb are very scarce. New Zealand lamb has a demand in excess of supply. N.Z. mutton, 8 7-8 d; ewe mutton,. &Jd; Argentine mutton, lOd; N.Z. lamb, 10d;' Argentine lamb, lid. N.Z. beef; No supplies available. Argentine beef: Prices lower, owing to increasing supplies of Argentine chilled beef. Hinds, 12d; fores, 9|d. Butter.—Market firm. Prices higher. Danish, 206/ to 208/; N.Z., salted 194/ to 198/, u»salted 196/ to 198/; Australian, salted 188/ to 192/, unsalted 190/ to 194/; Irish creamery,, salted 190/ to IW/, unsalted 192/ to 196/; Argentine, salted ISS/, unsalted 180/ to 190/. Cheese. —No official quotation. Hemp.—The Manila -hemp market continues firm. The market in thePhillipines is active and 1 advancing, with maximum prices expected to be higher.
