HEAVY FLOODS IN THE SOUTH.

DUNEDIN, this day

Heavy rains throughout Otago on Saturday night and Sunday resulted in hoods. It was reported this morning that a large area on Taicri Plains was under water, including the township of Berwick. It is stated the floods in the Taicri Eiver are the heaviest for fifty years.

Th e Waipori Eiver rose to an unprecedented height and water entered the Dunedin City Corporation ’a electric power house, and power and light were cut off from Dunedin and surrounding districts.

The Clutha Eiver is also in flood at Sterling. The river burst its banks, and it is feared a hcav> loss of stock has taken place on Taieri Plain. The southern express was unable to go through this morning. The north express left as usual.
