TENNIS NOTES
The Easter holidays interfered with the succession of tournaments to be held by the Taihape Tennis Club. Despite the absence from town of many players, there were good attendances at the courts on Easter Saturday and Monday. On Saturday the nets were well patronised by local players and in addition several visitors availed themselves of the opportunity of a game and were hospitably received by the members.
Messrs J. L. Leydon (Wellington), Private Hawkins (Dannevirke), Kirschberg (Wellington), and Miss Carkeek (Wellington) visited the courts on either day, and gave a good account of themselves in play against the local players. The presence of visitors on the courts is always welcomed by the club, as new styles of play are an education to members.
On Saturday afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. and Miss O’Callaghan, Mrs. C. Gibbs and The Batchelors, Mrs. O’Callaghan also providing fruit. On Monday afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. and Miss O’Callaghan, and was greatly enjoyed by all present.
Beginners are reminded that the courts are available for play when they so desire, and can be used free of charge until commencement of next season.
On Saturday play will commence at 2 p.m., an American tournament will be played amongst those present, and afternoon tea will be genera).; - ; A
