GERMAN INTERNAL AFFAIRS

BLOCKING PEACE DISCUSSION. THE FOOD SHORTAGE. AMSTERDAM, March 28. The Supreme Command has blocked discussion on a motion in the Prussian Upper House urging that every means be taken to secure an honourable peace. Herr Batocki, Food Director, told the Reichstag Committee that food supplies had been over-estimated. The increases in other rations did not compensate fos the reduction of bread, but no other solution was possible. The shortage in pigs compels encroaching on the reserves of cattle. It was impossible to increase the production of food owing to the difficulties of laboun and transport. BERNSTORFF'S MYSTERY BOX. Received 8.45. LONDON, March 28. Bernstorffs mystery box has been opened by the Foreign Office in Ur presence of the Swedish Minister. The nature of the contents is unavailable.
