BOROUGH ELECTIONS

(To the Editor.) Sir —I think that in justice to those who are meeting to discuss the advisability of moving in Borough affairs I must reply to your leading article of the 6th. You state that is is freely bruited about that we have selected new men to fill all vacancies. Well, sir, if such was the case that would prove the genuineness of the affair, as if we wished to get control of the Council our way would be to put forward four members and give them a block vote, and thus assure their being reti.rned. I am surprised, Mr. Editor, at such an article being published by you, as I personally discussed with you what proceedings we were taking, and that once we had a party to put forward we would call a public metering and then discuss the whole business with the ratepayers. I do not know where you got you,r information from about a clean sweep, but you may be surprised to know that some of the present councillors have been approached to allow themselves to be nominated again. The object of these meetings is to get the best possible men out if such cau be done, and have a progressive and ecouical Council in. When we are organised, Mr. Editor, we will invite the press to be present and publish all concerned about the business; before then, Mr Editoy, before publishing such as appeared in your paper, we would like you to get the facts and tr.uth.l am, etc. ONE OF THE ELECTORS.

(The above letter is published verbatim, because we are anxious to avoid anything that would tend to- frustrate the fullest discussion of Boyough affairs. Our correspondent expresses surprise at what we have said, and incidentally accuses us of stating inaccuracies but fails to mention even one of them. Any movement that means progress has -our utmost sympathy and support, but we would like correspondents to make themselves acquainted Avith what they criticise. The above letter, has no bearing whatever on any vieV we gave expression to. We are glad to know that there is such active interest in Borough affairs as our cor-.-respondent indicates. Ed-
