A NEW STONE CRUSHER

FOR THIS COUNTY ROADS. A small gathering of men took: place on the Taihape-Mataroa Road, conspicuous among whom were Mr Sydney Muir, the Rangitikei County Engineer, Mr H. Callaghan, and the inspector of County Reads. The occasion being the initial working of a new stone crusher to break up metal for making and repairing county roads. Owing to the distance had to be carted, and the gloving scarcity of. labour, the County Council found the letting of metalling contracts impracticable, so they resoled to do the work with their own staff. This means that surfacemen have to be temporarily taken off the roads to work the new crusher. What also largely influenced the Engineer in the stone-crusher proposal was the fact that the Taihape-Mataroa quagmire called a road, had been a source of extreme danger and much annoyance for the past 15 years. Prom the experimental stage of working the crusher, it is apparent this trouble can now be ended. The machine is a portable cue, and is readily transported to whatever road it is needed upon. The new crusher worked ’admirably, and it seems that the County Council has made a most excebeut bargain in the interests of the whole County.
