ON THE WESTERN FRONT.
LONDON, Jan 23. Sir Douglas Haig reports that the enemy attempted raids northward cf Arras and north-east of Ploegskeert Wood, which were unsuccessful. Our heavy artillery caused an explosion in their lines opposite Arras. LONDON. Jan 23. A French communique states that on the right of the Meuse there is most violent artillery activity, also in the sectors of Douaumont, Caurieres Wood, and in the Vosges in the region of Chapelotte.
