BRITISH SHELLS FOR AMERICA. Received 8.50. WASHINGTON, Jan. 18. Tbe secretary of the Navy has given contracts to Hadfield’s Ltd., England, for making shells for the United States navy to the value of over three million dollars. Th e American tenders were over two hundred dollars per shell in excess of the British tender,, and the period for delivery was double.
