BRITAIN'S MAN POWER.

DRASTIC COMBING OUT. Received 9 a.m. i LONDON, Jan 17. The War Office has issued a series of orders as a prelude to a more resolute combing out. One requires employers to supply monthly lists of employees between eighteen and fortytwo, including casuals; also a return of women and men outside the age limits, to enable the War Ofiice to judge how far the system of substitution may be utilised. Another order requires half the young fit single men under twenty-six years, employed in agriculture, to join the colours immediately. It is estimated the order will affect sixty thousand. It is believed agriculture is over-staffed in some districts and under-staffed in others. A number of class Co men will be handed over to the farmers to replace fit youths.
