Received 10.15. SYDNEY, Jau 16. Mrs. Calvert Atkinson has been advised that her son, Sergt. T. Atkinson, of the New Zealand Engineers, has been awarded the Military Medal. MELBOURNE, Jan 16. The Defence Department has decided to release the output of privatelyowned woollen mills for public needs, owing to overstocking. The Treasurer, in appealing fcr subscriptions to the war loan, announced that the Government requires £IB,OOO 000 for war purposes. It is estimated the private wealth of Australia is £l,000,000,000. The Federal Cabinet has agreed to the appointment of a control authority to control repatriation. It is understood Mr. Hughes intends to appoint a Director of Repatriation. MELBOURNE, Jau. 15. The Commonwealth treasurer strongly appeals to employers to help employees to subscribe to the war loan. Mr Hughes denies that he withdrew his offers of portfolios to the Liberal Party because his own followers protested. Senator Pearce, on behalf of Mr Hughes’ followers, states that the party has not even considered the proposal of sharing office with the Liberals. SYDNEY, Jan. 15. A young man named Benziug was remanded on a charge of murder in connection with the Rockdale crime.
