BRITISH WAR LOAN.

MONEY POURING IN. Received 10.15. LONDON, Jan 15. Subscriptions of new money tc the great War Loan are pouring in. Although the bank closed at the usual hour, the Bank of England’s loan office was open yesterday until six o’clock. There was a steady stream of investors all day long, testifying to the eagerness to help the country in her hour of crisis, thus suggesting a widespread inspiration to secure her financial safety. There is a far larger number of individual subscribers than was the case in the preceding loans. Newspapers emphasise the fact that while Germany is unable to touch us in most things, she certainly has beaten us in the number of small subscribers to her various loans. London bank managers and clerks yesterday reported they never knew a time when the calls on their aptitude for rapid and concentrated business were so numerous. Splendid reports come in from every part of the Kingdom.

LIEEKNECHT SENTENCED. Received 10.15. ZURICH, Jan. 15. Liobkneeht, the Socialist leader in the German Reichstag, has been sentenced to 41 years hard labour, and expulsion from the Berlin bar. BIG RAILWAY SCHEME. LONDON, Jan. 15. A report from Petrograd states that a syndicate proposes to construct a thousand miles of railroad from the South Manchuria line into Southern Siberia.
