ON THE WESTERN FRONT.
DETAILS OF LAST RAID. MERELY A PRELUDE. Received 8.35. LONDON, Jan 12. Mr. Philip Gibbs states that yesterday's attacks was followed by a severe bombardment. Our casualties were slight. The attack was made before daylight. Seventy-five per cent. of the prisoners are Bavarians, the remainder being Prussians. The enemy's barrage was erratic. New positions have been formed on the top of the ridge. It is believed these local operations are part of a methodical plan, preluding vastly more important operations.
