GERMANY'S AIM. LONDON, Jan. 9. Mr J. D. Bourchier, the "Times" special correspondent in Roumania, writing from Jassy, the temporary capital of Roumania, states that the Govcrnfcnent and military authorities believe that Germany aims at the occupation of the whole of Roumania. The offensive is continued without relaxation. New troops arc brought up and are attacking day and night, despite the inclemency of the weather. The Germans intend to initiate a new king and Government when the realm is overrun. A wireless Russian official says: Following an enemy bombardment and gas waves the enemy pressed back the Roumanians north-west of Focsani until the arrival of our reserves. Enemy attacks on the Sereth were completely unsuccessful. SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS BY THE GERMANS. LONDON,, Jan. 9. A wireless German official says: We pushed back th e enemy between the Putna and Oituz valleys, and drove the Russo-Roumanians from fortified mountain positions at Odobesti towards Putna. We stormed Milcova position and pierced the enemy's second line between Focsani and Jaresta. We crossed the Focsaui-Boiotesti road and captured Focsani, prisoncriug oUIO and taking three guns. LONDON, Jan. 9. A German wireless says: We are pursuing the defeated Russians near Focsani. ROUMANIANS STILL FALLING BACK. Received 11.15. LONDON, Jan 9. A Russian wireless says: The Roumanians fell back six versts west of Monittar and Kachineul, on the Kasino River. We took new positions.on a line with the Putna and Sereth rivers. Received 11.55. LONDON, Jan 9. A German wireless states: The enenmy is tenaciously defending the valleys iri the B'erlozk mountains leading into the Moldavian plain. We are still advancing step by step. We stormed positions on both sides of the Kasino and Susita valleys. We have reached the Putna sector, the enemy holding a new position on the opposite bank. We drove back the- Russians to the Cranjeni-Kanesti line, and stormed GarliasKa. The captures now total 5400 men and three guns.
