There is relative quiet elsewhere. j BELGIAN DEPORTATIONS. | THE GERMAN WAY. PARIS, Jan 2. Repatriated Belgians narrate that the Germans punish slave raid victims Who refuse to work. These are placed In a long box, like an upstanding coffin, w-here it is impossible to move, for several hours. The victims are afterwards put in a cell for a time, then Jfcurned to the box, alternation continuing until the slaves are willing to obey. ||OUR FUTURE TRADE. Received 8.45. LONDON, Jan 2. The Colonial Institute is receiving (satisfactory replies to the circular inviting the Dominion governments and chambers of commerce, and Boards of Trade to endorse the policy of obligat- i ory purchase of Imperial goods and preferential British contracts where possible. Twenty-eight governments and twenty-one chambers of comberce and boards of trade endorse the proposals.
