A HIGH-PRICED BULLOCK.
DISPUTE IN OUR HIGHLANDS. The ownership of . a bullock which was sold last month for It's, has been the subject of much discuss'cr in. the Apiti and Ranch wahia districts ever since. There have been two claimants for the and each has had a host of supporters. The question of the ownership was finally settled on Friday hy Magistrate Hewitt at Managweka, when Messrs David and Sydney Arthur Meads, of Rangiwahia, claimed to recover the bullock from Mr. William Thomas Pratt, of Apiti. Many witnesses were called on both sides and the hearing occupied the full day.
The Magistrate decided in favour ot Mr. Pratt, and allowed him costs anc
witnesses’ expenses amounting to £3i: ISs. As the plaintiffs’ expenses would
be'almost the same amount, the cos of the bullock must he a record prici for the district.
Mr. Gascoigne, of Mangaweka, ap peared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Ong ley, of Feilding. for Mr. Pratt.
