TAIHAPE TENNIS CLUB.

The fine weather of the past week has been fully taken advantage of by tennis enthusiasts. On Thursday and Saturday afternoons especially the courts were exceptionally well patronised and players had the experience b’f having to wait for a court to play on, which has not been the case for a few years past. The committee, however, see to it that there is a continuous succession of fours going on on the courts.

players are given every chance of improving their play by being given games with experienced players. Altogether the present season, both from a playing and a financial point of view, should bo better than the last few seasons. New members arc always welcome, and it is never too late in the season to join; subscriptions for those joining late in the season will be arranged for by the committee. As the courts are of asphalt, play can be continued throughout the year, weather conditions permitting. With a view to the future prospects of the game in Taihape, the club has permitted the use of the courts to pupils of the District High School at a nominal subscription. Mrs Rhodeshas interested herself in this direction and there are probably at practice now amongst the school players some future club champions. The idea is an; excellent one, and probably the best thP club has put into execution. Amongst the lady players great improvement has been shown, amongst those of premise being Misses Bell and an. To sustain improvement constant practice is required, but this the |najority of the players fail to realise; their presence is noted on the conirts on Saturday,i but the courts are not again so honoured until the next sifternoon tea day. j

Next Saturday is Bachelors ’ Afternoon Tea Day. which is causing quite a flutter of excitement amongst the single lady players especially'. "'ho expect something at least bet her than bidenits and cheese. Unfort uuatefly, however, for all concerned, t/he bachelor is becoming as rare a bird as the moaj so what is left of "’ill have to buck up and uphold the) reputation. The thanks of the club/ arc due to Misg IST. Curtis for a donation of 10/'> to the club funds. To those members wh»>m it concerns the committee would that subscriptions are always Acceptable, and the work of the comyittcc is lighter by prompt payment off same.
