AMUSEMENTS.

EVERYBODY'S. ~"\ It i s customary for th 0 managemei of Everybody's to submit in Saturda and Monday programmes something hi in the way of special feature picture; and to-night's programme givjg promis of equalling the best yet submitted There will be two v star attractions. On is a powerful sTefl§ f feature "Th Shooting of Dan M-Grew," a wondei ful picturisation of Robert Service 7 stirring poem. The gnawing hunger of lonely me: for a home and all that it means For a fireside far from the cares tha are: four walls and a roof above But ch! so cramt'ul of cosy joy, am crowned with a woman's love— A woman dearer than all the world and true as heaven is true, etc It is a story with thrilling adventun romance and power. The other sta feature is a gripping, five-part Work dramatic masterpiece, "The Man o: the Hour"—a play of unusual forces depicting in a realistic manner a man': fight against overwhelming odds. Tlu cast is a powerful one. headed by tin celebrated actor Robert Warwick. This picture, when shown in Wellington achieved a wonderful .success, the theatre was packed nightly. The full programme will occupy twe and a half hours on the screen. THREE STARS.

David Belasco's famous story "of the Californian raining days has passed from novel to drama, drama to opera, and is now a triumph of the motion picture world under the Lasky-Par«a-inount banner. The Auckland Star says of the production: "The qualities that made it such a success on the stage, both as a drama and as an opera, lend themselves very readily to a successful production on the screen. With a setting cast .in the 'Wild West.,' it was to be expected that the picture would make the most of the opportunities for daaipresfjive revo?vcrishootin«r and remarkably good horsemanship. but neither of these things is overdone. The hero, a splendid character, very ably portrayed by House Peters, is a 'road agent' and a figure of the virilo American type, whose appeal to pic-ture-lovers is usually irresistible. 'The Gir]' is a charming young woman who is employed in a frontier saloon of the most charming sort, but who preserves her charming qualities in spite of the riotous living of those about her. Eventually her simple faith and love convert the outlaw to a better life., and the story ends with a, satisfying ]>airin^off-*' A lively comedy, called "A Keyboard Strategy," and one of the latest Gazettes arc also shown.

PAUL DUFAULT'S FAREWELL. Pau Dufault builds up Lis concert programmes with consumate care. In the first place lie requires of a song that it shall make a more human appeal than that of mere technical brilliance. And in arranging the numbers which meet his standard of combined musical worth with acceptability to a normal audience, the tenor goes about his task with all the deliberate discrim-

ination of a politician planning an oration or an author drafting a novel. He demands progression, contrast, sustained interest, and a climax, ami lie shuns anti-climax like a plague. Most of those who have listened to a Paul Dufault programme will agree that he succeeds in obtaining these desires, for his programmes undoubtedy have a great growing interest and invariably a strongclimax. Though Paul Dufault is the bright particular star, the other members of his company are artists of a very high order. Miss Pauline Bindley is a soprano of exceptional clarity and sweetness. Miss Florence Scapini (violinist) is blessed with an ardent temperament, and plays with intense feeling. Mr Harold Whittle Cpianist) needs no introduction from us for his name and reputation are known to every music-lover in Australasia. Hewas selected by Madame Melba as her accompanist during her last three concert tours. A musical and intellectual treat is in store for those who attend the performance of this talented company at the Town Hall on Wednesday next. The box plan is at Mr Cochran's Piano Depot.
