A RED CROSS FUNCTION.
AT BENNETT'S SIDING. A most successful Red Cross entertainment and dance took place at .Bennett's Siding last evening. It is doubtful whether a more enthusiastic gathering was ever held there. The organisers and secretaries were Miss Anderson and D. Swenson, and too much cannot be said in praise of their work. A considerable amount of genuine fun, and a satisfactory sum of money resulted from the auctioneering of two sheep and some poultry by Mr. J. Evans, of Mr. D. J. McLennan's Taihape auction mart. The prices he obtained were such as should make auctioneers generally feel decidedly envious. The two sheep sold were presented by Sandy Potaka; two ducks were given by Miss G. Anderson; and two fowls by Kingi Topia, all of which sold remarkably well with the help of Mr Evans' seductive banter. After the sale upwards of 40 couples found enjoyment in dancing till about 3.30 a.m. this morning. The total proceeds were over £3O, Avhich is particularly good, and shows that the Bennett's Siding people realise the needs of our boys who may be laid low in the European fighting.
