TAIHAPE FARMERS' RED CROSS SHEEP ART UNION
AN EXECUTIVE MEETING. \ A general committee meeting of the Taihape Farmers’ Red Cross Sheep Art Union was held in the Gretna Hotel on Wednesday, November 8, at I p.m., there being present a representative gathering of the farming community. Apologies for non-attendance -were received from Messrs J. F. Studholnve, D. McKay, J. G. Oldham, and C. Forde. Mr de Latour was voted to the chair, and he opened the proceedings by briefly stating the general principles and objects for which the meeting had been called, stating that in this particular scheme there were great possibilities, and it was hoped with the active co-operation of all the members of the committee and of the community generally, to raise a substantial sum of money to place at the disposal of the Red Cross Society, thereby assisting the the great cause. The chairman then called upon the organiser, Mr S. G. Peyton, to whose untiring efforts it was acknowledged the floating of the present scheme was solely due, to outline the general scheme. That done, the next business was the selection of a suitable secretary, and after some discussion it was proposed that Mr A. M. Ryan be called in to state yhat salary he was prepared, if elected',to the position, to accept as sufficient remuneration. Mr Ryan’s demands being considered very moderate,, he was unanimously elected secretary. Two propositions were then put to the meeting: (1) That the working of the scheme be carried out entirely by the Taihape Committee solely in the interests of the Taihape branch of the British Red Cross Society; and (2) that the art union be worked conjointly with all the Red Cross branches of the Wellington provincial district, the latter to be subject to a ten per cent, discount on all sales. The latte r, pio posal was unanimously earned, and the chairman congratulated the farmers on their generosity in adopting the wider plan. The name of the art union was fixed as the “Taihape Farmers’ Red Cross Sheep Art Union.” Mr S. Powell was elected hon. treasurer, and it was felt that, with the further, assistance of the press, who have already rendered yeoman service, the scheme bids fair to p 0 a splendid success. A hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
