The New York Times’ Washington correspondent says an extraordinary letter fom Lord Charles Beresford has been sent to Colonel Thompson, of the United States Navy League. Lord Beresford says: “We escaped an appalling danger at the beginning of the war. If the Germans had attacked us without warning and sent h e r 104 cruisers and armed merchantmen to our unprotected trade routes-we would have been brought to our knees within a :oup!e of months.
