A GREYMOUTH SENSATION.

■ ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE. AN ARREST AT HOKITIKA. GREYMOUTH, Oct. 9. An assault and robbery with violence occurred at Greymouth on Saturday night. A man entered Chow King’s store in Gresson St. The door was unlocked. Chow King heard a man enter, but thought it was one of his countrymen. The man seized Chow King, and a violent struggle ensued. Chow King was badly battered, gagged and bound, and the keys of his safe were taken from him. The robber started to rifle the safe, but was interrupted by the appearance of a young man named Long, who entered by the back door, which had been unlocked by Long with an extra key. When he got in, he heard Chow Bing groaning, and went to ascertain the cause. The robber attacked Long, who was badly knocked about, but he escaped through a window, and went for the police. The robber disappeared. Several hundred pounds are missing. The police are reiccnt, but an arrest is hourly exepected, and sensational developments are probable. From information received, Constable Mcßoberts proceeded to Hokitika and arrested William Dunphy, a well-known Greymouth resident. The accused was staying at Kelleher’s Hotel, and on a search of his room being made, a good deal of money was found. The accused had been riding about in a motor-car all day.
