RETURNED SOLDIERS’ DEPARTMENT.

The latest progress report issued by the Returned Soldiers’ Department shows that the toaal num- : ber on the register is 5505, of whom 4218 have been disposed of, 903 are under action, and 354 are not, yet ready for action. Of the men, 1683 are men who have had work to go to or men who have re enlisted and returned to military duty; 1007 have been employment; 1014 have ance not required”; 139 have New Zealand, or their addresses cannot be ascertained; 240 aie men who have not responded to repeated communications, and men who have accented work the Department found for them, but failed to start work, and 135 have drawn sections. There are at present the names of 282 men on the “Employment Wanted. Register,” and of these, three are Wellington men for whom pimple clerical work is desired.
