RUSSIAN WOMAN GUNNER.
It is well known that a number of women are in Russian infantry regiments, but one has now been fauna wearing- gunner’s uniform and attached to a field battery. Her husband is in command of the battery, and allows lier even to accompany it into action, but he will not put her on the strength. Nina Vladlmorovna is her name. She served first as a nursing sister, and went through her apprentceship of danger during the ' retreat from Galicia. Only once since I have been with the battery,” she said, ‘‘have I been under such heavy fire as I had to go through then.’ The officers and men of the battery say she has never shown any sign of fear. She says that being in action is like seeing an exciting play early in life when one has just begun to go to the theatre. “It maks my heart beat fast,” she continued. “Perhaps that is fear; I don’t know r . I don’t know what I shall do when the war is over. It will be so odd wearing skirts again and living at ease in luxurious surroundings and having nothin to do.”
