Allen, Minister, of Defence, regarding a rifle range at Karioi, dated Wellington, 28th August:—ln continuation of my letter of sth instant and in further reference to my previous letter of 11th March, regarding the utilisation of the present Karioi Rifle Range Reserve for the range accommodation required for the OhakuncRaetihi district, this area which was set aside some years back, is not now deemed sufficient to give an adequate danger area, and in addition it 'would be unsafe, as the line of fire would ru» across the front of the Karioi Domain. It has therefore been decided to obtain a larger and safe site on Crown, land adoining, giving a line of fire running away from the railway,, and this site is now being surveyed for tho purpose. On completion of survey and reservation the matter of construction of range on the new site will be given immediate consideration, the necessary estimates being gone into in. the time V ’ ’ !
