The High Commissioner's market ■•cpoit. dated London, August 12, is as .'ollows ' (Quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot.):— Meat. —The market is quiet, but steady. New Zealand mutton and lamb are .in small supply, with the result that there is belter demand for Argentine beef and New Zealand beef.
New Zealand Mutton.—7 5-Sd per lb; ewe mutton tf-ld; Argentine mutton 9 3-Sd.
New Zealand Lamb.— 7ld; Argentine lamb lOd.
New Zealand Bull Beef.—Hinds 5 ; Jd; fores 4!jd. Argentine Chilled Beef.—Hinds 10-ld fores 7 J-Sd.
• Butter. —The market closed firm at advanced prices. Danish salted, per ewt, 194/ to' 19(1/; Irish creamery, salt ed, 170/ to 172/: unsalted, 172/ to 174/; Ca-ndian salted, 170/ to 172/; New Zealand and Argentine, unsalted 172/ to 174/. .. * Cheese. —The market continues , firm. Canadian white, per cwt, 94/ to 96/; coloured, 94/ to 95/; English Cheddar 108/G; New Zealand .white, 90/ to 97/; coloured, 94/ to 95/.
Hemp.—The Manila market fluctuated verj* much, and closed lower. The New Zealand market is quieter, and Dominion offerings ' are very small. Government graded fair. Manila hemp, per ton, £sl 10/: good fair New Zealand, £49; fair, £4(5 10/. Quotations are nominal. August-October shipment: Government graded coarse Manila, £47 10/; good fair New Zealand £4B 10/; fair, to £4o* f Th e output of hemp from Manila for the week ended last Saturday was 32,000. Stocks of New Zealand hemp on hand at July 31st were 4-15 tons.
Wheat. —The market is firm, ,-and prices continue to advance. '- mands are better, and sellers offer sparingly. American August-Septem-ber, 07/; No 1 Manitoba Northern afloat sold at fiS/; Australian afloat, 07/.
Oats_ The market is quiet but firm at last quotations. English new crop is beginning to be offered.
Cocksfoot Hoed. —The market is quiet. Good Danish is quoted at 72/. Wool. —The market is ■quiet For merino, quotations are lower, and cross breds, nominally, arc unchanged. LONDON CHEESE MARKET. The Auckland Branch of the Loan and Mercantile Co, Ltd.. has received a cablegram, to-day from its London office, stating that the cheese market was firm ai 96/ per cwt. TALLOW. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd, has received the
following cable from its London office under date 9th inst.j—
Tallow:—We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: —Fine mutton, 49/3 per cwt; good beef, 48/3 per. cwt; mixed, 45/ per cwt. Market dull; downward tendency.
