CONCERT AT UTIKU.

PATRIOTIC AND .SOCIAL CLUB.

A GREAT SUCCESS

On Thursday night members of the Taihape Orchestral Society journeyed to Utiku and gave a concert under the auspices of the Utiku and Ohutu Patriotic and Social Club. When Kelly's drag with the musicians aboard drew urn at Doole's Hall, the building was fairly well filled but by the time the second item on the programme was bein«rendered the hall was packed. It speaks volumes for the members of the orchestra that they essayed Jthe

journey on such a wretched night, but it is just as surprising that the residents of the Ohutu and Utku districts should travel so far to be entertained. The programme went through without a hitch, the orchestra fairly excelling themselves, as they never played better. The vocal part of the programme was contributed by Miss Brodrick and Mr Midgeley, and an excellent singer, whose name is not given. Miss Brodrick certainly sang splendidly, and merited the encores that were insisted on. Mr Midgeley also proved himself to be an exceedingly desirable man on the concert platform, whether it be as a vocalist or at the piano. Miss Little, the orchestra \s pianist, also rendered good service as an accompanist, an arduous position that rarely receives the notice it deserves. At the close of the programme Mr Hulbert, of Utiku, thanked the performers for the musical treat they had! given,, and took the opportunity to congratulate th esecretary, Mr organised the whole function. The ladies then passed round tea and -sandwiches and confections bountifully, for which, members of the Orchestra would have liked to see a vote of. thanks passed. After the concert the hall was quickly cleared, and dancing was indulgedtinfor a few hours to good music by local players. The gathering was success from every point of view..and the Club is to be congratulated. ,
