DECLARATION DAY.
The Mayor, Mr Arrowsmith, has received a communication from the
Premier asking that the anniversary of the declaration of war be observed with similar ceremonies and in much the same way that it was celebrated last year. If the weather is fine a monster jgathering will be held at the
Band Rotunda, near the Post Office, when patriotic speeches will be delivered and a resolution passed worded somewhat as follows: —“That on this anniversary of a righteous war this meeting of the Burgesses of Taihape records its inflexible determination to continue to a victorious end the struggle in maintenance of those ideals of liberty and justice which are the common and sacred cause of the Allies.” This resolution was passed at a simultaneous hour in every centre of importance throughout the whole British Empire. It :is hoped the Tathape Brass Band and others will attend and render similar assistance to that jiliven last year and so make /the gathering an unqualified success; and
fully •indicative of this district’s feeling respecting the undoing of the Prussian fiend; If the weather is wet, the gathering will take place in the Town Ha 11.,, : ■ ;r ' -
