A SERIOUS CHARGE
QUESTION OF IDENTITY. 1 Ernest Arthur Carter, an Auckland lad of 16, on a charge of attempted ape of a girl of 12. was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed in one surety of £IOO. The allegation is that on July 7th the girl was assaulted while she was gathering lilies at Wesern Springs, and escaped by severely biting the wrist of her assailant, who ran away. Some days later she saw Carter on the street, and accused him. though he disclaimed all
knowledge of the affair. When arrested he was found to have a wound on th e wrist. The defence is an alibi.
