THE PERONNE SITUATION.
FRENCH OGOUPY DOMINATING POINTS. ENEMY IN SERIOUS POSITION. Received July 13, 12.15 a.m. LONDON, July 12. The "Daily Telegraph's" Paris correspondent says Biaches lies at the loot of a declivity on the edge of the Somme canal, opposite Peronne, from which it is separated by the canal, the river, the marshes and Hill 97, a mile south of Biaches. with La Maisonette for a summit, and a small wood halfway up the hill, between Biaches and La Maisonette. The enemy have strongly fortified Biaches, the wood, and the hill. The French south of the Somme hold the two lines from Eelloy to Feuillieres, westward of Barleux, to Biaches.. To the eastward the only German position of importance is yillers. The capture of Hill 97 has given the French complete command of_ the railway from Ghaulines to Peronne. The most remarkable feature of the Anglo-French offensive is the per, feet co-ordination of the operations. The advanced line from the Ancre river to Peronne forms a series of steps, and the enemy at each angle is exposed to a crossfire from two sides.
