GERMAN LINE PENETRATED ONE AND A QUARTER MILES.

Received 5-5 p.m., July 2. LONDON, July 2. The correspondent of ''Lloyds' Weekly" at headquarters says: We captured Serre and .Mont Auban, important strategical positions between Hibuterne and Bray. We hold positions in the villages ; of Contad Maison and Mametz, and are attacking Beaumonthamel # six miles north of Albert. We captured La Boiselle, two miles northward of Albert. Many were prisonered. The front lines of the AngloFiench, fighting with great gallantry, covered 1 % miles beyond the German front line, rapidly occupying the village of Curlu on the Somme, and Faviere Wood.

(Albert, on the river Ancre, is an important road and railway junction half-way between the Somme and Arras. Bray is another junction six miles south of Albert.)
