UNDONE IN ONE DAY.
RESULT OF THREE MONTHS’ LABUOR. ITALIANS’ MARVELLOUS PERFORMANCE, AUSTRIANS PUTJO FLIGHT. LONDON, June 27. A great Italian victory has been won in the Trcntino, where the Austrians werp driven out of all conquered positions The “Daily Telegraph’s” Milan correspondent says the Italians captured in one day positions which the Austrians took three months in conquering, comprising the entire Mandrielle roadway system. The Italians reconquered the summit of Cengio, giving them command of the valley of the Arsiero. Motor transport played an important part in the success. All roads were lined with lorries and cars of every description. The gigantic labour of transferring half a million men proceeded for weeks. Hundreds of guns were dragged up seemingly inaccessibble mountains over improvised roads. When the guns opened fire from concealed positions, the Austrian advance was broken in a single day, and a rout began under a hail of shells. The only chance was instant retreat, otherwise the Austrians between Posina and Asiago soil’d have been annihilated
