WANGANUI'S RAILWAY NEEDS.
WELLINGTON, June 21. ' Mr \'oitc:h to-day a»Ued the Minister of Railways whether he proposes to do anything' to meet the ever-increasing railway traffic to the' Wanganui district by deviating the railway between •Mataraw a, and Turakina, and by providing up-to-date shunting facilities. The Hon. Mr. Hemes t-Minister for Eaiiwavs) replied that there arc 10 funds available for carrying out a work such as suggested, neither is there any present intention or carrying out a. deviation in thai locality. The expenditure on the programme of essential works has had to be reduced to the lowest possible minimum, and in the majority of cases the commencement oi the work has rad to be 1 ' poned for want of funds.
