GENERAL SMUTS’ REPORT Received this day at 11.30 a.m. LONDON, June 20. General Smuts’ despatch, dated 30 April, details the operations in German East Africa. The German forces are estimated to be 16,000 whereof 2,000 are white. They have 60 guns and 80 machine guns. Organised companies consist of 150 to 200 of which 10 per cent are whites,; they have an average of two machine guns per Company.
