CARRANZA REBUKED

'WAR NOT WANTED

Received this day at 8.45 a.ra. (WASHINGTON, June 20. The American note to Mexico flatly rejects Carranza’s demand for the withdrawal of American troops; it rebukes Carranza for the discourteous tone and temper of his last communication.

Anti-American feeling is at fever heat in Mexico, and all United States Consuls and citizens are leaving the country. Carranza hopes war will be avoided but it i s believed he is unable to restrain his followers.

The United States -has despatched a warship and some torpedo boats to Mexican waters, and General Funston is appealing for more troops to guard the frontier, as present forces are insufficient.
