SHOULD WE ECONOMISES

The views of notable people on I’lo question of personal economy m wartime is a question that will interest every woman reader. In “Everylady’s Journal’' i’or June the Minister of Defence and Mrs. Fcarce, Mr. Theodore Fi.ik, Mrs. James of the Overseas Club, and Mr 0. Williams, one of the leading bankers of Australia, all contribute short articles on the subject of economy and thrift. They all agree that it Is necessary that we should emacmise hut they also agree that the bes: way to do this is to spend judiciously and not to heard savings and go short on necessities. As Mr. Fink says: “What we want is a campaign of thrift, and it is not a moment too scon to begin; money spent or invested wisely is patriotic, money put into luxuries, gambling, and amusements is waste of national strength.” In the June issue of “Eve yiady’s Journal” the editor has followed this note throughout. For example, tno.e are pages of advice on the must ecencmiucal methods of buying and cooking food, and there are cages devoted to bints on how money may be made as well as saved. Among the special features in this issue is a beautifully illustrated article in which Mr. Leslie Gaze —the well-known actor —tells readers how a living may be made from keeping pigeons. An illustrated stcry about that highest salaried person in the world —Mr. ‘‘Charlie Chaplin” —is well worth reading. it seems tc us the patriotic duty of every woman to buy “Everylady’s Journal” as a genuine Australian magazine. Its fine stories and articles, and scores of fashion designs, and several free patterns, make it fine value for sevenpence. If unobtainable locally, “Everylady’s Journal’ wdll be sent by post to any address for six months if a 3/6 postal note is sent to T. Shaw Fitchett. 373 Swanston Street, Melbourne.
