TURNIP GROWING, COMPETITION. THE JUDGE \S COMMENTS In connection with the turnip growing competition held under the auspices of the Rangitikei A and P Association, the Secretary, Mr A M. Ryan,, has received the following letter from the judge, Mr T. A. Duncan:'— "In confirming my wire of to-day, I have awarded first prize to Mr A. R. Fannin, of Papakai road, the second award going to Mr McCombie, of Wainui. I did not award any third as there were several so close in my opinion that I would have had to inspect two or three places again. Outside the awards those of special mention are Mr Collins, Tairoa; Mr McCarten, Utiku; Mr R.. Wilkie* Papakai road; and Mr J, Bartosh, while Mr Hintz and Mr Dalrymple, of Pukeokahu, both have very nice crops* but Kghter than the former ones Mr Hintz's were the best take I had seen and were particularly even though lacking in size. Mr Dalrymple has the finest quality swedes I have seen in the district though the crop lacked weight 4 ' Taken all round I was much impressed with the crops considering the very bad season we have gone through for root crops of all sorts,"
