LONDON, May 22. ? .In /he Commons, replying to a question, Mr Asquith said the Government’s advisers had ruled to find evidence that Germany ami America were making and storing goods ready to jdunm in Britain after the war. Mr Hunt sought an assurance that millions would not be driven back to starvation on Hie wages existing before the war. Mr Asquith.—How can I give such an assurance? Mr Asquith did not reply to Mr Hunt’s appeal that the colonies f.h >nld be assured fair play after the war. EMPIRE DAY AUSTRALIAN OBSERVATIONS SYDNEY, May 23.
There will be a modified observance of Empire Day. No public holiday or entertainments will tfeke piac-. Schools will bo restricted to an hour’s lesson on patriotic subjects. Intrccssory services will be held in the churches.
