The High Commissioner’s market report, dated London, May 20, is as follows. Note. —Quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot. Meat. —Good demand continues for all descriptions of meat owing to shortage of supplies. The prices of New Zealand home-grown mutton and lamb has advanced. Canterbury and North Island mutton are today quoted at Sgd per lb. Ewes, very limited supply, B.jd. New Zealand lamb of all descriptions, 9?.d. There is no New Zealand beef of any description on the market. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. Hindquarters, lOifd; fores, Bi|d.
Butter. —The market remains firm, i Danish, quiet. 170/ to 174/. Siberian, (good demand, 130/ to 138/. Irish j creamery, steady, 162/ to 166/. Australian, l')8/ to 164/. New Zealand, | active demand, 168/ to 170/ for both I salt and unsalted; fair to good qualii ty, 158/ to 160/. Argentine, 154 to I 158/-. I Cheese. —The market is very firm | and prices are firmly maintained. Canadian. of which stocks are light, 115/ per cwt; English Cheddar, 118/ to 122/; New Zealand, white 114/ to 115/, coloured 113/ to 114/; United States, less offering, 108/ to 110/-. Hemp.—The market i s quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers, caused by heavy shipments having come to hand from Manila. It is reported that there is very little New Zealand hemp offering.. New Zealand good fair is realising £49 10/ per ton; fair, £47 10/. Manila, fair, £55. For MayJuly delivery New Zealand good fair is quoted at £4B, fair £46; Manila, fair £54, coarse £sl. The output from Manila for the week was 32,000 bales.
/Wheat. —The market is quiet. Ca-nr-dian offerings are very small. Canadian, arrived. 58/; April-May delivery, 57/; Australian, afloat, 61/; Argentine, 60/-. Oatsi —The market is dull, with very little business doing. Argentine, arrived, 33/ per quarter. Linseed. —The market is quiet. Calcutta, 73/ per quarter; Argentine, 67/-.
Wool. —The market is strong and all stocks are advancing. Hops.—The market is quiet, hut steady.
Kauri Gum. —The market is quiet. There was no gum offered at the monthly public sale arid it is impossible to give any quotation. DISORGANISED HOME MARKETS. WOOL TRADE CONFERENCE. LONDON, May 21.
There has been a sensational advance of over a hundred per cent in the price of Australasian ox and cow ■horns owing to the prohibition against importing. Large sorts realised 81/ per hundred as compared with 33/ at
the previous sales. Medium brought 21/ to 32/ as compared with 15/-.
At a Government conference to consider the question of wool export, all sections of the trade were represented, and gave the War Trade Department the latest information as to the present state of the trade, and the prospects of he near future. Another conference will be held on July 1,
