GARDEN PARTY.

IN AID OF RED CROSS FUNDS. Yesterday afternoon a garden party was held at the residence of Mrs. A. L. Arrowsmith for the purpose of raising funds for the Red Cross Society. The grounds were in splendid order and looked very pretty indeed. There was a large attendance and as a result the funds were benefitted to the extent cf £ll 4/2. On the lawn a flower stall was erected and great business was done. There was also a , sweet stall and a guessing competition was held, while a fortune-teller also told visitors what they wanted v to know and sometimes what they didn't want to know. In the guessing competition, competitors had to guess the amount which would be taken as a result of the party ,and Mrs. Burgis proved the winner; the actual sum taken being £ll ' 4/2 and she guessed £ll 3/6. I During the afternoon songs ' were | rendered in the drawing room by Mrs 'Lnughnan, Mrs. Durrant, Miss Bennett and Mrs Campbell and Miss Bear; Mrs. Loughnan and Mrs. Mitchell sang a duet. The flower stall Avas in the charge of Mrs. Emerson and the sweet stall 'in the charge of Miss Gilbert. The hostesses, Mrs. Arrowsmith, Mrs Hair and Mrs were unremitting in looking after the pleasure of the guests, all of whom appeared to enjoy themselves immensely.
